Welcome to the Vashon, WA October 25th Irish Ceili

|
Ceili's
are an Irish gathering with music, song & dance.
This isn't Riverdance - these are folk dances
and very simple to learn. We have a live band, and a
dance caller/instructor who will start the night at 7pm by
teaching footwork - 3's, 7's, jig step, and a ceili swing.
Then its time to burn shoe leather the rest of the
night. We recommend leather soled shoes that glide, and be
prepared to shed a few layers of clothing as this is an
aerobic workout. Dances are suitable to ages 10+ . We walk thru all dances
slowly before the music starts. The dance card
includes an Irish Waltz, polka's, hornpipes, jigs &
reels. No partners reqd - just bring your
smiles!
Maldon Meehan of Portland taught a Connemara Set Dance
workshop earlier in the afternoon, including footwork.
Sorry no photos as I was busy dancing. Maldon was
also our dance caller/instructor for the evening ceili.
The Gold Ring band (Marilyn, Steve, Martin) provided the
lively Irish tunes for the evening. During the ceili
break, Deb Collins and several of her Celtic Fiddle
Students from Pierce College performed for us. Our
congratulations to these upcoming musicians.
Maldon also danced a sean nos demo, with Joanne Ward
accompanying on fiddle. Plus the vocal virtuoso
Vivian performed a solo. Hope you'll join
us at the next ceili ! |
