Sound bytes from the An Ri Ra Irish Festival
in Butte Montana Aug 10th-12th, 2007

The following RAW recordings were made on a mini disc player.
I was nestled in my comfy camping chair, a long distance from the stage so sound effects like the wind & restless people are included.  Like me, the mini disc batteries were on vacation Friday night, ie. no sound bytes of Aoife Clancy, Robbie O'Connell, Cathy Ryan's Band, or Trinity Irish Dancers.
Guess you'll just have to join us next year on the fun road trip so you don't miss a thing !

Lyrics for The Elders tune:

Now Packy Kildare was a kid without a care
His pal was Bucky McGrath
At the age of ten they talked like men
Feared by the rest of their class

Sister Josephine what a mean machine
She was nobody's fool
She sent them down below to shovel in the coal
That heated all St. Brendan's School
But they'd spilled off the spool
Just too cool for school
They called it a waste of time
So every other day was wasted away
At the river in their life of crime

Packy I confess you have beaten the best
with a story to tell all your own
Packy go home they're searching for your bones
And your Ma's waitin' up all alone
yea your Ma's waitin' up all alone

The clever young men, they had a plan
To escape the fate they got comin'
Every ounce of coal that furnace could hold
Was keeping that boiler hummin'
When the temperature soared to a thousand or more
The pressure continued to rise
With our boys miles away burnin'up another day
As the blast split the mid-day sky

Packy I confess you have beaten the best
with a story to tell all your own
Now  Packy go home they're searching for your bones
And your Ma's waitin'up all alone
yea your Ma's waitin'up all alone

Now Packy's old man was first in command
The captain of the fire brigade
The good Father Keane was first on the scene
With the good sisters he prayed

When the flames were finally out, they all looked about
Still looking for Packy and Buck
When neither could be found
They were mourned throughout the town
As the heroes who ran out of luck

Packy I confess you have beaten the best
With a story to tell all your own
Now Packy go home, wait till your dad gets home
And your Ma's waitin' up all alone

Packy I confess you have beaten the best
With a story to tell all your own
Packy go home they're searching for your bones
And your Ma's waitin' up all alone
yea your Ma's waitin' up all alone

oh Jesus, Mary & Joseph

Packy I think we just blew the roof off the school
